Chiavenna celebrates its culinary heritage at Dì de la Brisaola

On 3 and 4 October 2026, the Cittaslow town of Chiavenna invites visitors to discover a local tradition through food, music and encounters with its producers.

At the beginning of autumn, the historic streets of Chiavenna will host Dì de la Brisaola, a weekend dedicated to one of Valchiavenna’s distinctive foods. The event offers an opportunity to slow down, explore the town and meet the people who keep its food traditions alive.

The name brisaola reflects Chiavenna’s own heritage. Local producers use this traditional name for their cured meat, distinguishing it from the better-known bresaola of Valtellina. The celebration brings their work into the heart of the town, connecting visitors with the skills and stories behind the product.

On Saturday 3 October, local farms will present their products in Chiavenna’s historic courtyards from 10:00 to 18:00. From 18:00, bars in the town centre will host the Aperitivo della Brisaola.

On Sunday 4 October, from 10:00 to 18:00, visitors can follow a tasting route through the historic centre and meet local producers at ten tasting points. A tasting booklet costs €5 and is available at the designated sales points.

The programme also includes farmers’ markets, activities for children, open museums, exhibitions and music from Guggen bands. Together, these experiences make Dì de la Brisaola a celebration of Chiavenna’s community as well as its cuisine.

For Cittaslow, the event shows how a local food tradition can bring people together while supporting producers and inviting visitors to experience a place at a gentler pace.
