Cittaslow International has formally requested to take part as a civil party in the trial opening tomorrow at the Court of Salerno, in the pursuit of justice for Angelo Vassallo – the unforgettable Vice President of Cittaslow International and the exemplary “Fisherman Mayor,” admired worldwide.
Angelo Vassallo, Mayor of Pollica, was brutally murdered in Acciaroli on September 5, 2010. Fifteen years later, Cittaslow stands alongside the Vassallo family and the community of Pollica, reaffirming its commitment to honoring the memory of a mayor who dedicated his life to legality, civic courage, and the protection of his territory.
“Becoming a civil party is a responsibility towards the Vassallo family, towards local institutions, and towards all citizens who believe in democratic principles,” said Mauro Migliorini, President of Cittaslow International and Deputy Mayor of Asolo.“Vassallo remains a model for mayors everywhere, who must confront the daily challenges of governance while safeguarding transparency, democracy, and the common good.”
Luca Della Bitta, Coordinator of Cittaslow Italy and Mayor of Chiavenna, added:“His life demonstrates that political commitment, when lived with integrity and love for one’s land, can become a legacy of values for future generations.”
