Today, Cittaslow International Secretary General Pier Giorgio Oliveti was welcomed at Sasebo City Hall by Mayor Daisuke Miyajima, City Council President Hidetoshi Hisano, and representatives of the municipal council and administration.
Located on the island of Kyushu, in Nagasaki Prefecture, Sasebo lies at the heart of an archipelago comprising 208 small islands, many of which are protected within a national park.
The application of the small island community of Takashima to join the Cittaslow network has been approved and has now reached an advanced stage. Sasebo–Takashima will soon undergo the official assessment required to complete the accreditation process.
