Accessible tourism. Signing of the memorandum of understanding between Cittaslow and the Ministry of Disability

Today in Florence we listened to good practices, projects and experiences of the territories, the Third Sector and the private world. There were illustrious speakers and precious testimonies of a reality that is possible, if you want, to be realised". Thus the Minister for Disabilities Alessandra Locatelli concluding the event Italia Insieme - Tourism accessible to the territory, which took place at the Leopolda station in Florence.
The initiative has told, through the Regions and the networks created with other institutional partners, private and the world of the Third sector, the good practices that have been realized thanks to the resources - 50 million euros - that every year the Ministry for Disabilities invests to make accessible places of culture, art, beaches, museums, cities, paths and also for work inclusion and training paths related to tourism.
"Thanks to the resources made available by the Ministry - emphasized Minister Locatelli - it was also possible to activate 560 training internships for people with disabilities in the tourism sector, thus paving the way for an essential work path to build a life as autonomous and independent as possible".
The panels took place throughout the day and public and private entities also participated in the work, which, through their actions, represented important models of action to be shared. It was also an opportunity for the Minister to present the BILT network (Beauty, Inclusion, Work, Talents), born from the idea of networking various associations that develop job opportunities for young people with disabilities in tourism.
The Minister then signed a protocol with Cittaslow Italia for the promotion and dissemination of accessible tourism practices and models in the Municipalities affiliated to the Cittaslow network. The parties have mutually committed to activate and support initiatives, at national and territorial level, inspired by the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and guided by the Solfagnano Charter, for the participation in the social life of persons with disabilities and their families and the development of their autonomy, their talents and their skills.
In addition to the conference part, Italia Insieme was present an exhibition area with the stands of the Regions, of the Third Sector and also 12 food trucks.
The event was preceded by a gala dinner, on the evening of April 21, organized by 25 associations that work inclusion, in collaboration with the Solidarity and Emergencies Department of the Italian Federation of Cooks. The dinner was entirely prepared and served by the children with disabilities from the various associations, with the musical entertainment of the Rangers Music Band of the "Il Brugo" association of Brugherio.
"Not a simple dinner, but the opportunity to start experimenting with a new look: to see in each Person the potential and not the limits - underlined Minister Locatelli -. I thank the Italian Federation of Cooks and all those who contributed to the realization of this moment of true cultural and social renewal".
