Gaochun, China: ManYou ROCK 3.0 brings music and Cittaslow values together

From 2 to 4 October 2026, ManYou ROCK 3.0 brought 27 music acts to Yaxi Cittaslow in Gaochun, Nanjing. Set among hills, flower fields and lawns, the outdoor festival combined live performances, local cultural heritage, opportunities for young people to connect and practical environmental initiatives. Admission was free with advance reservation.
The festival offered a way to experience Cittaslow values through music and shared activities. Its programme focused on musical discovery, with performers selected through recommendations from fans and reviews by professional music critics. A dedicated “Young Bird Stage” supported emerging independent bands, while Gaochun’s traditional “Tiao Wuchang” Nuo performance shared the stage with rock music, bringing local heritage into dialogue with contemporary creativity.
Hospitality also shaped the event. Through the “Hometown Gift Exchange”, visiting fans exchanged small souvenirs from their home regions for local gifts, including Gaochun crab gift cards, feather fans and wood carvings. Birthday celebrations, proposals and collective singing created further opportunities for interaction. Visitors could bring their pets, with waste bags and a dedicated rest area available. Facilities included free parking and drinking water, shuttle buses, women-friendly spaces, a nursing room and charging facilities.
Environmental measures encouraged visitors to take part directly. The “ManYou Audience Pact” banned cold fireworks, while dedicated shuttle buses helped reduce private car access to the Cittaslow core area. Free drinking water points aimed to reduce the use of disposable bottles. Fans could also exchange three plastic water bottles for “Crab Coins”, redeemable for drinks or discounts on cultural and creative products.
During rainy weather, public security, fire services, health authorities, the Communist Youth League and volunteers worked together to assist festivalgoers. Support included waterproof coverings, raincoats and hot ginger tea. Staff also helped lost visitors return to their hotels and provided hot water, fresh socks and instant noodles to those soaked by the rain.
ManYou ROCK 3.0 translated the Cittaslow approach into a shared cultural experience, connecting independent music with local traditions, care for visitors and everyday environmental action.
