Bad Essen

Geographical Location

Bad Essen is a small, historic salt-water spa near Osnabrück in Lower Saxony. Bad Essen lies at the centre of the wooded Terra Vita Nature and Geopark, part of the UNESCO Global Geopark Network.

History

The earliest reference to Essen is in a document from the year 1100. Since 1902 it  has been known as Bad Essen. The municipality consists of 17 localities  - all of them rural with many timber framed buildings. Bad Essen is part of the section of the German Timber-Frame Road known as „The Beauties of the North“. In 2010 Bad Essen was the site of the Lower Saxon Horticultural Show; with its Family Activity Park and Salt Arena it has something for all age-groups.  As a salt-water spa, the town is a centre for health care cooperating with partners in the medical, hotel and gastronomic fields.

Bad Essen ist ein kleiner, historischer SoleKurort im Osnabrücker Land in Niedersachsen. Bad Essen liegt mitten im waldreichen Natur- und Geopark Terra Vita, der zum UNESCO Global Geopark Netzwerk gehört. 

Geschichte 

Essen wurde erstmalig im Jahr 1100 urkundlich erwähnt, seit 1902 trägt es den Zusatz „Bad“. Zur Gemeinde Bad Essen gehören 17 Ortschaften – alle sind ländlich geprägt mit viel historischem Fachwerk. Bad Essen gehört zur Deutschen Fachwerkstraße „Die Schönen im Norden“. 2010 war Bad Essen Standort der Landesgartenschau Niedersachsen, mit dem Familienpark und der SoleArena wurde ein ganz besonderes Angebot für alle Altersklassen geschaffen. Der SoleKurort ist Gesundheitsstandort mit Partnern in Kliniken, Hotellerie und Gastronomie.
