Amelia, located in the Umbria region of Italy, is one of the 'slow cities' that enhance the concept of quiet and sustainable living. This city, built on a series of hills, is renowned for its ancient charm and rich history dating back to pre-Roman times. Amelia's virtues include its strong dedication to quality of life, evidenced by its commitment to preserving its cultural and natural heritage. Participating in the Cittaslow movement, Amelia organizes numerous events that celebrate its traditions and heritage, including 'Amelia in Piazza,' 'Festival delle Nazioni,' and 'Sagra del Carciofo' (Artichoke Festival). For responsible tourists, Amelia offers multiple attractions: visits to the Archaeological Museum, walks along the ancient polygonal walls, tastings of local products in typical taverns and excursions to the surrounding green areas. Details & Programs
Day 1 – Friday
• 2:00 PM – Arrival in Amelia and check-in at accommodation:After checking in, you will have time to settle into your chosen accommodation, selected to offer both comfort and a setting that reflects the authentic local atmosphere.
• 3:30 PM – Walk through the historic center and visit to the ConVitto Dairy:Meet your local guide for a stroll through the medieval streets of Amelia, discovering charming corners and the city’s rich history. The walk ends with a visit to the ConVitto Dairy, located on Via Farrattini 27. Founded in 1980 by Grandpa Pino, originally from Gioia del Colle, the dairy is a fusion of Apulian and Umbrian cheesemaking traditions. Here you’ll witness artisanal cheese production and enjoy a tasting of specialties such as fresh mozzarella and burrata.
• 7:30 PM – Return to accommodation and overnight stay:After the visit, return to your hotel to relax and get ready for the following day.
Day 2 – Saturday
• 8:00 AM – Breakfast at accommodation:Start your day with a breakfast featuring local products to energize you for the outdoor activities ahead.
• 9:00 AM – Transfer to Brina Tartufi Farm:Take a short ride to the farm of Matteo and Virginia, located in the Umbrian hills. They specialize in truffle cultivation, fava cottora dell’Amerino (a local broad bean variety), and the production of extra virgin olive oil. Matteo and Virginia will welcome you with an introduction to the world of truffles. After a presentation on the various truffle types and their characteristics, you’ll participate in a truffle hunt guided by their trained dogs.
• 12:30 PM – Lunch at the farm:After the hunt, enjoy a convivial lunch at the farm featuring dishes made with the truffles you’ve found, alongside other local products.
• 3:00 PM – Visit to Cantina Zanchi:In the afternoon, transfer to Cantina Zanchi, renowned for its production of Ciliegiolo, an indigenous Umbrian grape variety. After a walk through the vineyards cultivated according to organic farming principles, you’ll visit the winery to learn about their winemaking techniques. A guided wine tasting will follow, accompanied by a light buffet dinner with typical regional products.
• 7:30 PM – Return to accommodation and overnight stay:After the visit, return to your hotel for the night.
Day 3 – Sunday
• 8:30 AM – Breakfast at accommodation:Enjoy a relaxing breakfast before beginning the day’s activities.
• 9:30 AM – Chocolate workshop at the Spazio Creo Day Center:Transfer to Spazio Creo Day Center, a social initiative that provides rehabilitative and professional workshops for people with disabilities. Take part in a chocolate-making workshop, where you'll learn chocolate crafting techniques and contribute to a project of social inclusion.
• 11:30 AM – Visit to the Fichi Girotti workshop:Take a walk through Amelia’s center to reach the Fichi Girotti workshop, in operation since 1830. Here, discover the history and production process of this local specialty: dried figs stuffed with nuts and chocolate, then pressed into a distinctive round shape. At the end of the visit, enjoy a tasting and have the opportunity to purchase some of these treats.
• 1:00 PM – Free time and end of the tour:After the visit, enjoy free time for an independent lunch or to further explore Amelia. In the afternoon, return to your original destinations, taking with you the memory of a weekend filled with Umbrian flavors and traditions.
