The county of Yeongyang surrounded by Ilwolsan (Mt. Ilwol), a sacred place for Coreans is blessed with natural resources. Due to a political turmoil during the 16th century of Joseon period some noblemen (Yangban) were forced to step down from power and install themselves in Yeongyang, devoting them to learning. So, the county has produced many of the nation’s best scholars and decent families, and the Yangban-related culture and arts still remain.
A. Oessibeosun-gil: The county of Yeongyang makes efforts to conserve the lifestyle and culture of Yangban, for example, to restore and follow the recipes of a cook book written in Corean 400 years ago. The book is highly valued historically and academically, and also contains the recipes of traditional Corean liquor, showing why the county has the oldest brewery in Corea.
B. Traditional food: The county of Yeongyang is more active in networking with neighboring towns. The county constructed natural trails called “Oessibeosun-gil” named after small shapely Korean socks that connect other mountainous regions. The trails result in a positive outcome, including increase in tourists.
C. Hot Festival Yeongyang Chili Peppers: The county of Yeongyang is more active in producing and promoting local products, taking its advantage of an area with very clean air and water, and especially red pepper is of the nation’s highest quality and the most recognized product. Also the county holds an annual festival that features wild edible greens grown in the clean environment e of Yeongyang.
