"Slow" Projects and Characteristics of the Municipality of Perito
Environmental Protection and Energy: The village employs a "door-to-door" waste sorting system—implemented in 2008 and achieving a 65% rate—complemented by the free distribution of home composting bins for organic waste management. The water treatment plant and sewage network were renovated and certified in 2017 (in collaboration with the utility provider CONSAC). Regarding energy efficiency, the Municipality has upgraded public facilities and replaced street lighting with high-pressure sodium (HPS) lamps to reduce environmental impact and light pollution. The use of GMOs is strictly prohibited within the territory, in alignment with the guidelines of the Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni National Park.
Urban Quality and Resilience: Through a memorandum of understanding signed in June 2019 between the Municipality of Perito, AICTT, and the Ampio Raggio Foundation, the village is advancing the "Landscape Cilento: Habits of Good Living" project, aimed at hosting remote workers, artists, and digital nomads. The administration has also revitalized the municipal park and installed children's playgrounds, alongside planning architectural restoration and enhancement projects for the local hamlets. The ratio of concrete to urban greenery is well below the national average.
Agriculture, Local Products, and Traditions: A regulation establishing the De.C.O. (Municipal Designation of Origin) was approved via City Council Resolution No. 5 on May 12, 2014, to protect and promote traditional agri-food products. Workshops and rural life experiences are organized (such as fresh pasta making, olive harvesting, and goat milking). Menus for public events strictly prioritize organic and locally sourced ("zero-mile") products.
Slow Tourism and Hospitality: The non-hotel accommodation sector offers approximately 70 authorized beds, with the aim of structuring experiential tourism packages spread throughout the village. "Slow" itineraries are promoted via brochures, the web, and official social media channels. A dedicated desk for sustainable architecture development is active within the Technical Department.
Social Cohesion and Participation: The administration adopts a participatory approach based on periodic meetings and bottom-up decision-making involving cultural associations, local businesses, and citizens. The local network of associations is highly active, thanks to synergies with the *Pro Loco Perito*, the "ViviCilento" association, and the *Ampio Raggio* Foundation.
List of Events
The promotion of rural culture and the "good life" is showcased through long-standing events and major attractions:
Festa nel Bosco (Forest Festival): A renowned food and wine event of regional significance (marking its 40th edition in 2020), hosted in the area's picturesque chestnut forest.
Vasci, Portuni e Pertose: An event spread across the historic village center, dedicated to rediscovering ancient doorways, alleyways, and traditional local cuisine.
Peritolive: A festival dedicated to extra virgin olive oil and the promotion of the Mediterranean Diet, featuring awards and workshops organized in collaboration with the *Pro Loco*. Health Days: Specialized meetings and conferences focusing on medical prevention, food sciences, nutrition, and education on healthy eating based on seasonal produce.
