Nanzhuang Township is located in northeastern Miaoli County and covers an area of 165 square kilometers. With a population of approximately 8,000, it is a rural settlement characterized by diverse natural and cultural features. In the past, the local economy was mainly based on agriculture, forestry, and mining, while today it focuses primarily on agriculture and tourism.

Blessed with natural landscapes such as farmland, forests, and streams, Nanzhuang is also home to diverse cultural communities, including the Saisiyat, Atayal, Hakka, and new immigrant communities. The coexistence of diverse ethnic groups and nature has shaped Nanzhuang’s unique character, giving rise to a rich variety of local industries, cultural traditions, and ways of life. As a result, Nanzhuang has become a popular tourist destination in Taiwan.

As a member of the Cittaslow movement, Nanzhuang Township has long been committed to promoting the Cittaslow philosophy. Through various tourism activities and initiatives, the township provides an important platform for tourism and cultural exchange, attracting visitors from different regions and offering opportunities to experience Nanzhuang’s local culture, traditions, and distinctive cuisine.

We hope to build Nanzhuang’s tourism into a distinctive brand based on its unique natural environment and cultural character, using this brand as a means of promoting the Cittaslow philosophy. Nanzhuang will continue to foster an equal and diverse cultural environment, actively create a friendly environment for local industries, and develop into a sustainable and livable township where diverse communities participate in governance and share prosperity.
