The Gimhae city located at the southeastern tip of Corean peninsula is right next to the city of Busan, Cittaslow Supporter, and is one of representative cities with functions of rural and urban communities with a population of 530,000 people. It has the Gimhae International Airport, representative airport in the southern part of Corea, and runs parallel to the Nakdonggang River, one of Corea’s fur largest rivers. Also the region of Gimhae once flourished the most during the Iron Age in the Corean peninsula. Gimhae is a place where Corea’s ancient and present cultures coexist, and has functions of both rural and urban communities.
The city of Gimhae is restoring and preserving historical and cultural remains from the BC era, the Middle Ages to modern times. The city is also actively interacting with the Indian Government to trace the records of Heo Hwang-ok, queen of Suro, a founder of Gimhae Kim 2,000 years ago. Queen Heo drifted in the sea after she left India, and then arrived in Gimhae. The city does its best to restore heritages in everyday life; cultural policy on the preservation of earthenware heritage during the Gaya period (42-532 AD), the restoration of tea culture that brought from India 2,000 years ago, and so on. Gaya was a confederacy of territorial polities in the Nakdong River basin of southern Corea.
