A precious place between the National Park and Terre Matildiche A mid-mountain landscape crossed by soft valleys, this is what Castelnovo ne' Monti looks like today, an area rich in natural potential and generous with cultural proposals. The center, fulcrum and heart of the entire landscape is the Pietra di Bismantova, a superb rocky emergence of gray sandstone that spreads out on the summit in a soft flat plateau. Not least one of the most beautiful riches of the Tuscan-Emilian Apennine National Park along with the area of the Triassic Gypsums, ancient and spectacular outcrops of evaporites dating back more than 200 million years, located in the valley of the Secchia River. An ideal place for environmentally compatible tourism, thanks to its natural features, age-old vocations and modern and functional facilities, Castelnovo ne' Monti does not disappoint the expectations of a tourist eager for itineraries to be discovered, off the more commercial “routes” beaten by mass tourism. A land of typical products of the highest quality from Parmigiano Reggiano, the flagship product of the local agri-food sector, to the characteristic “Fiorettino” salami with hand-cut lard, to the mountain erbazzone with rice, Castelnovo ne' Monti is home to the only Slow Food Condotta in the Apennines of Reggio Emilia, and has embraced the philosophy of CittaSlow, the International Network of Good Living Cities, for some years now, embarking on a path to enhance its territory and products. Features: Castelnovo né Monti can be recognized above all in its environmental characteristics. Rich in elements of natural value, (Pietra di Bismantova, pine forests, Monte Fosola) it has a high environmental healthiness that is reflected in the quality of agri-food productions (mountain Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, undergrowth products, fruit and vegetable productions). It also believes that it has important peculiarities on the cultural sector and traditions particularly on musical culture (choral tradition, band tradition, but also classical culture) excellently represented by the Istituto Musicale Pareggiato C. Merulo. Moreover, since 2004 the Bismantova Theater, a multipurpose place (cinema and convention hall) has been reopened, which is notable for its important theater program, (drama, operetta, ballets). Requirements The Administration is committed to infrastructural policy, especially the existence of equipped green areas, the presence of a public relations office, and offering homogeneous access hours to City Hall offices for various sectors to facilitate relations between the public and the Administration. The Administration is also committed to offering new technologies for urban quality and the environment: there are active intervention plans to restore the original conditions of historic centers and works of cultural and historical value, there is a strong awareness of organic architecture, and in the use of the civic-telematics network.
