Administrative goals of Cittaslow Jangheung is Clear Water & Green Forest, Jeongnamjin Jangheung. People used to call Jangheung ‘Happy Land’ as it was a great place with high mountains and clean water. People there were praised to be naive, enjoying leisure hours with their works. Especially, Jangheung is located to the direct south of Seoul. It has the warmest oceanic climate in the country with great natural ecology surrounded by mountains, water, river and round sea coast. Above all, the utmost thing seeking for the happiness is the nature. The county operates policies to make residents and visitors happy by enhancing the town’s green areas represented by green joy, green life, green city and green people. We cannot discuss about the nature if we exclude farming. In this context, this town lays much importance on farming.

Cittaslow Jangheung is the hometown of the queen mother of the 17th king of Goryeo dynasty and king’s town which produced the 18th king. It has been operating ‘Slow World Farming Cooperative’, boasting the town’s brand dreaming of slow world for the first time in Corea. Jangheung has a local culture with strong sense of individuality. They like the nature and the green, lay importance on high spirit and epicurism and seek for the good with compassion and care. The town has also been the home of many literary persons - 54 writers as well as righteous persons, said to be the home of the literary and the righteous. Borim Temple, the famous temple at Gaji Mountain, is famous for its zen tea temple stay, classic tea of Cheongtaejeon, the tea road and the gracious sound of temple bell.
