"Slow" Projects and Characteristics of the Municipality of Città Sant'Angelo
Environmental Protection and Energy: A "door-to-door" separate waste collection service has been in operation since 2009 through the joint venture LINDA, complemented by a direct drop-off system for green and organic waste composting established back in 2002. Plans are in place to install photovoltaic panels on the sports hall and all public buildings to save energy. Since 2005, the Municipality has banned the introduction of GMOs in agriculture via a formal resolution, removed a telecommunications antenna from the historic center to limit electromagnetic pollution, and adopted the "Aalborg Charter" for environmental management (certification for the maintenance sector).
Urban Quality and Resilience: The Municipality has a Historic Center Redevelopment Plan (including a Color Plan) that has enabled the restoration of key landmarks such as the Convent of San Francesco (now the Town Hall and Library) and the Municipal Theater. Removing architectural barriers is a priority, involving the installation of public elevators (outside the walls, serving the library and offices) and dedicated pedestrian routes (the "Piedi Bus" project). Wi-Fi services are available in public buildings, and fiber-optic infrastructure has been laid along the SS 16 state road.
Infrastructure and Mobility: A "Mobility Plan" manages key urban and inter-urban hubs, supported by ample parking (serving the historic center, interchange areas for light rail/trains at Marina, and free shuttle buses during major events). A new decentralized office model brings together essential services outside the Town Hall (Employment Office, Chamber of Commerce, INPS, Water Utility Service).
Agriculture, Local Products, and Traditions: Città Sant'Angelo coordinates and promotes a Rural District uniting 15 municipalities. Regarding certifications, it is part of the "Aprutino Pescarese" consortium (PDO extra virgin olive oil) and falls within the DOC wine production areas (Montepulciano and Trebbiano d'Abruzzo). The Experimental Center for Olive Oil Technology (Ministry of Agriculture) conducts active research in olive growing. The administration promotes and works on establishing Slow Food Presidia for local specialties at risk of disappearing: pork "*ciff e ciaff*," lamb "*cacio e ovo*," single-strand hand-rolled "*pasta alla mugnaia*," and artisanal *arrosticini*.
Social Cohesion and Training: Numerous inclusion initiatives exist, including the Municipal Play Center in Fonte Umano, children's libraries, self-managed community centers for seniors, and home care services for the elderly and the sick provided by cooperatives. To foster ties with the local area and craftsmanship, there is a workshop dedicated to wrought ironwork and the revival of traditional arts such as embroidery, wood carving, and brick/terracotta craftsmanship.
