Izmir is Candidate to Become the First Cittaslow Metropolis
İzmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer announced that İzmir is a candidate to be the first "Cittaslow Metropolis" in the world. Speaking at the International Cittaslow General Assembly, President Soyer said, “We are volunteering to work with more than 4 million citizens to become the first Calm Metropolitan City. I hope we will help lay the foundations for a better world, ”he said.
Izmir Metropolitan Mayor Tunç Soyer attended the International Cittaslow General Assembly held in Orvieto, Italy. At the meeting where international participants were connected online due to the epidemic, President Tunç Soyer, who was also the Vice President of the Cittaslow Union, presented the "Cittaslow Metropol" project and announced that he was a candidate to become the world's first "Cittaslow Metropol".

President Soyer, Cittaslow meeting in Izmir Metropolitan Municipality and Turkey has developed a network of "Cittaslow Metropol" explained the concept. Stating that the “Cittaslow Metropolis” idea was born from the success of the Cittaslow model, President Soyer said, “We all try to make the world a better place for our citizens in our cities but why not try to do this in big cities? Big cities are not only the source of problems but also the drivers of innovation and economy. We believe that the Cittaslow philosophy has the power to improve life in these giant cities, ”he said. In the meeting, the idea of starting work for Izmir to undertake the coordination of the "Cittaslow Metropol" project was welcomed.
The draft principles of the concept of "Cittaslow Metropolis" are listed as "community and solidarity", "good governance", "urban eco system", "people-oriented economy", "food for all" and "eco-mobility". Cittaslow network has 30 members from 266 countries. Cittaslow's philosophy is based on cities that protect their identity and create an easier and happier life for their citizens.
