CITTASLOW INTERNATIONAL TAKES CARE OF SOIL QUALITY

Keep soil alive, protect soil biodiversity

DECEMBER 5, WORLD SOIL DAY 2020 BY FAO/UN

World Soil Day 2020 (#WorldSoilDay) and its campaign "Keep soil alive, Protect soil biodiversity" aims to raise awareness of the importance of maintaining healthy ecosystems and human well-being by addressing the growing challenges in soil management, fighting soil biodiversity loss, increasing soil awareness and encouraging governments, organizations, communities and individuals around the world to commit to proactively improving soil health.

In the Cittaslow territories experience the quality of the soils (together with that of air and water) is fundamental to ensure health, prosperity and "quality of life" for the citizens of today and tomorrow. This seemingly obvious concept is actually a definite political and operational commitment and task for the approximately 300 Cittaslow Mayors and communities of the world. Without respect for the soil there is no health and there is no life for man, there is no alliance between living forms, plants and animals. Against poisoning and desertification of soils like Cittaslow we promote environmental protection and agrobiology: among other things - FAO and Slowfood teach it - there can be no typicality to be handed down, no agricultural microeconomics, no marketing of the "local product", if the healthiness and cleanliness of the soils are not guaranteed.
