Taiwan presidential candidate Tsai, Ing-wen visited the city ofFonglin. There she learned how the Cittaslow philosophy can benefit rural townships. She also listen to local residents voice their concerns regarding local issues such as: food safety, public housing,and agricultural policies.

Tsai understood the Cittaslow philosophy, "To improve a towns' quality of life." Stating that as a leader, she believes the Cittaslow philosophy is a positive way to think about our lives. Cittaslows work also strongly reflects the government's policies. The government must work with people to protect the environment, support local, traditional markets and artisans, and good infrastructure.
