UK - Quality of life for residents in Cittaslow town

After more than a decade of working to improve the quality of life for residents in its towns, Cittaslow UK visits central London this autumn to celebrate past successes and future plans.

Introduced by Cittaslow International Director, Pier Giorgio Oliveti, who is travelling from Italy to join us, 'Cittaslow in the City' is open to interested parties who wish to discover more about Cittaslow and its extensive community cohesion projects.

Bringing together community members and groups from across a broad spectrum of the UK's voluntary, public and private sectors, Cittaslow in the City sets out to explain the organisation's ethos in greater depth through a series of short presentations from member towns.

Cittaslow UK Chairperson Liz Jones from Aylsham, commented, "This is a wonderful opportunity for us to highlight our towns' achievements, and by using the event to link with similar-minded organisations we hope to make new connections and cement existing partnerships such as our relationship with Slow Food UK."

The evening will illustrate the many and varied successful initiatives that Cittaslow towns have embarked upon, including the focus on supporting local businesses and maintaining high street shops, as well as protecting the environment, conserving local traditions and creating people-friendly urban fabric.

Reflecting this philosophy, food will include award-winning sausage rolls from The Big Skies Food Co. in Diss as well as Dunkeld's superb Scottish salmon from Perth. Locally produced drinks will be flowing along with poetry from renowned poets Emily Hinshelwood and Susan Richardson.

Cittaslow in the City will be held on Wednesday 7th November, 6.30pm – 9pm, Ascham Suite, Bloomsbury House, Bloomsbury Square, London WC1A 2RL. All are welcome.
