Sedgefield Slow Festival 2016

Sedgefield

The town of Sedgefield is known for its slow-paced lifestyle and is South Africa’s only official Cittaslow town. For those who aren’t in the know, Cittaslow is an international movement that rejects fast paced city living for a more fulfilling quality of life in slow moving towns, and encourages residents to make time for pleasure and leisure. To celebrate this official status, the South African town annually hosts the Sedgefield Slow Festival – and caters to those who wish to live life to its fullest. The next festival takes place from the 24 – 27 March 2016.

The festival is jam-packed with numerous activities that are unique forms of entertainment and geared toward the whole family. Festival-goers can look forward many adventures, beach fun and festival fun, slow food and the Sunday morning sunrise Easter service.

For the adventurous, one can look forward several trail runs, rounds of beach volleyball, a bike challenge with a twist (hint: you will be blindfolded) and for the beer drinkers looking to get a bit liquidated, a Pili Pili beer pong championship. Beach bums can participate in the ‘Anything That Floats’ race – where you’ll not only race against your competitors but be expected to build your own raft too. Alternately, you can stick to the shorelines with a sand sculpting competition or an Easter egg hunt on the beach. Other activities include a picnic concert in the park, township tours, art exhibitions and barefoot boules.

Over all, the Sedgefield Slow Festival is a great way to celebrate what most matters in life – family, food and culture.
