The focus of this conference is to present, discuss and address the challenges faced by European municipalities, businesses and distribution system operators when transforming energy systems and electricity networks ; with specific focus on: 

• City management opportunities: improved sustainability achieved by better planning of urban services, energy carriers, clear monitoring standards and channelling of investments into resource efficiency.
• Smart grids and new building contributions: electricity distribution, energy use and heating and cooling applications as drivers towards energy efficiency.
• The transport paradigm shift: collective transport and the integration of electrical vehicles into the urban environment.
